As expected, Intel’s finally pulled the covers off of two new Atom chips. Joining the Intel Atom’s first birthday party are two new family members: the Z550 at 2 GHz and the Z515 at 1.2 GHz. The Z550 is the fastest Atom yet, thanks to its clock speed. Feature-wise, it’s the same as the rest [...]
The Magsafe(tm) power connector from Apple is a wonderful idea. It was introduced in conjunction with the MacBook Pro at the Macworld Expo in 2006. The MagSafe connector is held in place magnetically. As a result, if it is tugged on—for instance, by someone tripping over the cord—it comes out of the socket safely, without [...]
Samsung expects solid-state drives to reach price parity with hard-disk drives within the next few years amid steep annual price declines in flash memory chips. Solid-state drives, which use flash memory chips as the storage medium, typically offer much better performance than hard-disk drives. But they cost more. Currently, opting for an SSD instead of [...]
ARToolKit is a software library for building Augmented Reality (AR) applications. These are applications that involve the overlay of virtual imagery on the real world. For example, in the image to the right a three-dimensional virtual character appears standing on a real card. It can be seen by the user in the head set display they are wearing. When the user moves the card, the virtual character moves with it and appears attached to the real object.
I came across this little headset in a Crazy John’s mobile phone franchise, and as I needed a stereo bluetooth headset, I decided to give this one a try. On first appearance, it appears that the over-the-ear design seem to have a somewhat tenuous hold as the grip the side of your face via the [...]
I have been following the Greener Gadgets Design Competition with some interest and some jelousy (I’m not in New York to compete) and I am sure that there will be some very interesting entries before the close on February 27th. One of the more interesting entries into the series is a mini-atx computer case made [...]

Personally, I am bored, and also confused when all my removable drive icons are all the same in Windows explorer, and would love it if they could be changed. To achieve this, you can simply do the following. The Removable drive looks like this, without any customizations and its confusing if you have more than [...]
The cult of the “netbook” continues. Tariq Krim crafted the Jolicloud operating system, his intention bein an OS designed specifically for those miniaturized laptops that rely on underpowered CPUs, tiny amounts of RAM and Mass storage, and the resources that any PC (not just the self respecting ones) should be booted up with. Jolicloud is [...]
